Whether you are duck hunting or goose hunting how you are seen or not seen by the waterfowl is the main reason you are successful or un-successful. We are assuming that there are waterfowl where you are hunting. Most ponds, lake and field duck hunting is done from a blind. Some flooded timber hunting is done by standing beside a tree, but for the most part a blind is required. Permanent blinds built to remain for years will not be discussed.
DUCK BLINDSThough we call some blinds permanent, they are really seasonal. Installed before the season and removed after the season. So in a sense they must be portable. The best of these semi permeate blinds must be light, easily assembled and disassembled, and take up small amounts of storage space. DNG has plans for two of these blinds. Both are two hunter blinds, both are 6 foot wide and 4 foot deep. Both after assembled can be placed on an ATV trailer by 2 people and put in place by 2 people. In most cases one person can assemble and disassemble the blinds in an hour or two. THE PVC BLIND - All parts can be found at Home Depot or Loews -Made from 3/4-inch schedule 40 PVC pipe with PVC pieces - "T’s", "Angles" and "Connectors". The pipe can be purchased in 10-foot pieces, cut with a PVC cutter to length and parts glued together. The blind can be carried in a 42-inch deep duffel bag and stored in the same bag - with the camo material. The only items added are chairs and floor mat. Depending on the ground the mat can vary from an old car floor mat to plywood. The chairs from used folding, plastic yard or the fold-up bag chairs. The blind plans can be purchased from DNG in the BLIND section. Tools needed are the PVC cutter and a rubber hammer. The material cost is less than $ 35.00, or it was in the summer of 2004. THE LEWIS FLIP TOP BLIND - All the parts can be found at Home Depot or Loews - Made from 3/4-inch thin wall metal conduit with purchasable pieces - 90 degree angles (found in the electrical department), No 8 by 3/4-inch self drilling screws (found in the fastener section), metal plates (3-1/8 by 7-inch found in the lumber department), a small roll of metal banding (found), budgie cords, small piece of romax wire and . This blind once put together can be disassembled in the parts. The parts will take up an area about 6-inch deep, 6-foot wide and 4-foot high. The material is more costly about 3 times that of the PVC blind. Tools needed are more extensive, conduit saw or pipe cutter, hammer, tin snips, scissors, vice grip pliers, regular pliers, drill and screw gun. The plans can be purchased from DNG and found in the BLIND section. If you would like the majority of the blind built, and only a screw gun required you can call (281) 821-3795. The price for the partially assembled blind with all parts (except camo material and cable ties) is $ 150.00 plus shipping and handling. All of these blinds can be built away from or at the site. After being built, they are relatively light and can be carried by two men or on a trailer behind an ATV. The major difference is the top flips back on the Lewis Blind and the front panel pushes forward and down on the PVC Blind. The Strong Built One man blind is transportable on foot or by ATV. Takes up very little space and works well with a 3-foot height. For duck hunters that hunt by themselves it is the perfect blind. Inexpensive, as blinds go, light weight, easy to transport, even easier to set up and fits in most hunting spots.
GOOSE BLINDS or HIDESDNG offers three lay-down blinds. They are durable, easy to transport, easy to set up, easy to store and will work for field hunting. Also, we offer two size sleds, a back rest and camo material for those hunters that hunt in white parkas in muddy fields. All "are my favorites" at different times for different hunting conditions. The Blanket Blind - Very lightweight, is transported like a backpack, folds out and has a camo cover. If it fits the surroundings OK if not it has loops for adding natural foliage. It is very inexpensive. The perfect one man hunt hide or blind. The RIP Blind - Light weight a complete laydown blind. Simple to set up in the dark with a flashlight. Very good in cold wind or light rain. The Field General - Lightweight, a complete laydown blind. Simple to set up in the dark with a flashlight. Excellent in cold wind or rain. Built to conform to your body. Easy to clean and takes up very little storage space.
SLEDSThese have been promoted by most long time goose hunters - snow or Canada hunts. The 6-foot sled allows for full extension of your body and legs. It has less side height and is harder to pull across a field. Than the 5-foot sled. This sled has higher sides, can be used as a laydown sled or hauler of decoys, bags, etc. through shallow water. Not a comfortable as the 6-foot sled but for hunters under 6 foot with the backrest placed at one end it allows the body and legs to stretch out. To determine which is best suited for you, give this a thought. Measure from your waste to the bottom of your boots. When the sleds are used as a layout blind in connection with the back rest, your body from waste to top of your head is on the back rest in a low sitting position. WINDTAMER GOOSE RAG DECOYS - This is the very best of the new decoys on the market for goose hunting offered for sales today. About 6 alert heads for every 100 WINDTAMER and you have the most positive of spreads for the least amount of money. Place 200 WINDTAMER decoys in a Wind Sock Bag or Wind Sock Sling - with 12 decoys with heads on - Place the bag on your ATV, open the sling bag put out the decoys or Carry the Decoy Bag to the spot to placement and pull them out for easy placement. Carry more, with less weight - takes less time to pick up the decoys after the hunt. The WINDTAMER is heavy NO SHINE- plastic. Available in Ready To Hunt boxes of 100 Snow, Ready To Hunt boxes of 50 Blue and Canada/Spec. A little more expensive than the standard Texas Rags but divided over five years and you have today’s best decoy bargain. The WINDTAMER when puffed up it remains open on zero wind days. The extra thickness eliminates tearing due to high wind. Grab the stake and pull it across your body - PUFF - it’s puffed up. You ask - Why only a dozen alert heads for 200 decoys. A look at a field of feeding geese and you will see only about one in 25 snows with heads up, more will appear the flock is hearing or seeing a predator. Use 2 to 4 dozen feeder heads along the down wind side. These can be carried in a head bag Why spend more when you can get more for less. Don’t be fooled by the claims of other decoy rags. There is no substitute. THE LEWIS FLIP TOP BLIND - Want a low profile blind, one that resembles a bush. The Lewis Flip Top Blinds is your choice for a 4 foot by 6 foot - 2 man blind. Covered with camo cloth and natural vegetation and this metal conduit frame blind to perfect. Standing 40-inch in the front and 4-foot in the rear with a Flip Top. Ready to shoot, release the top and stand. Nothing better. You can purchase the plans , take 4 hours (or 2 hunters about 2-1/.2 hours, less than $ 50.00 cost at Home Depot you are in business. Find the plans on line at DUCKNGOOSE.COM - BLINDS section.

| SAFETY TALK - BE SAFE - Be very careful in blinds. Before the hunt - EACH HUNT - decide the field of fire for each hunter. A two man blind is the safest blind. The left side hunter takes the birds on the left and the right side hunter takes the birds on the right. If 3 or more hunters in a blind enforce the field of fire - no crossing of gun barrels. If all the birds are coming from one side, take turns. One hunter shoots two, then sits while the other hunter shoots two and so-on. Be sure to discuss the position of the shoot - everyone stand or everyone stays seated. Where are the guns - leaning against the front rail, beside the hunter - pointed at the decoys. Be sure to target the bird BEFORE pulling the trigger. Never re-load unless the safety is ON and the muzzle is pointed toward the decoys. The very best friends need to know what the other is planning. NEVER FIRE if a hunter or dog is in the decoys - a duck "dips" and the shot is low not high like anticipated. Better yet sit the guns against the rail while birds are being retrieved. Going over safety rules is always the BEST idea. | |||
